Neolithic Logistics

Are your logistics a bit Neolithic?

We’ve been delving back into our Smart Directions history for an upcoming logistics project, but it’s also a great reminder not to get too stuck in the past!

Has that happened to you?

You might have used a courier partner, transport route or delivery service for many years. It’s reliable, it’s quick enough and you feel comfortable recommending it.

But is it still the best for you and your customers?

With the cost of fuel, the cost of living and the cost of materials increasing year on year, what was profitable in the past is worth a review now, in the present.

So what’s this got to do with Stonehenge?

Actually, it’s got everything to do with Stonehenge.

Today, the A303 that runs past the ancient monument is a single carriage time trap. The stretch of road only takes about 15 minutes on a quiet day, but if you’ve ever been caught there during rush hour, you might not see the end for another 2 hours. Yuk.

The site itself is actually ground-breaking for its time. For many years, we had absolutely no idea just how they managed to move such massive stones with the most basic of tools. Now of course, you wouldn’t use a system of ropes, logs and smaller stones to hoist them around 13ft. Enter the JCB and job done.

It would be ridiculous to STILL use the old methods when you could save time and money trying something new.

Besides, you’ve got big plans in 2023, right?

No no, we haven’t been reading your resolutions. Honest.
